Homework Statement

A transmitter sends out 1.8x10^7 waves per minute and generates a standing wave pattern. The radio waves travel at the speed of light to a receiver 20.0km away. Determine :
a) the frequency in herts
b) period
c)wave length
d) the time for one crest to travel from the transmitter to the receiver.
e) the number of nodes between the transmitter and the receiver.

Homework Equations

F=1/t t=period, f=frequency
V=f x (wavelength)

The Attempt at a Solution

i found b first by
60 seconds/ 1.8 x 10 ^7
=3.3 x 10^-6
a) 1/3.3 x 10^-6
=300,000 herts
im confused after this can someone help me please? thankyou

Physics news on Phys.org
so

3.00x10^8 m/s / 300,000 = wavelength?

what about the other questions any tips?im lost

can anyone please help me? i have a final exam tomorrow :(

d) How far apart are the transmitter and receiver? How long does it take to go that distance, traveling at the speed the radio waves are going?

e) This is related to how many wavelengths will fit between the transmitter and receiver. Also, you'll need to look up what a node is, and how that relates to the number of wavelengths.

Good luck on your test.
