SUMMARY

The discussion centers on the relationship between angular velocity and the weight of a rotating gyro. When placed on electronic scales, the initial weight is measured as M. As the angular velocity increases, the question arises whether the weight displayed on the scales will also increase. It is concluded that the scales measure the rest energy of the object, which does not change with angular velocity, indicating that the weight displayed will remain constant regardless of the gyro's rotation.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of angular velocity and its effects on physical objects
  • Familiarity with the principles of rest energy in physics
  • Knowledge of how electronic scales measure weight
  • Basic concepts of gyroscopic motion
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the principles of gyroscopic motion and its applications
  • Study the concept of rest energy and its implications in physics
  • Explore how electronic scales function and their limitations in measuring dynamic weight
  • Investigate the effects of angular momentum on physical systems
USEFUL FOR

Physicists, engineering students, and anyone interested in the dynamics of rotating systems and the principles of energy measurement.

there is a gyro...

put it on an electronic scales which has a smooth surface...it shows the weight is M.

then, let it rotate... keep increasing the angular velocity...

will the weight display increase? or else?

Does its rest energy increase? Where "rest" refers to the center of mass of the object, not to its parts.
Proper scales measure the rest energy of objects.
