Quantum gravity is a theoretical framework that aims to reconcile the theories of quantum mechanics and general relativity. It seeks to explain the behavior of matter and energy at a very small scale, such as the subatomic level, within the context of the large-scale structure of the universe.
QFT is a mathematical framework that describes the behavior of subatomic particles and their interactions. It combines the principles of quantum mechanics with special relativity to explain the dynamics of particles as they move through space and time.
QFT's provide a powerful tool for studying the behavior of quantum systems, and they have been successful in describing three of the four fundamental forces of nature (excluding gravity). Therefore, it is believed that a quantum theory of gravity will also need to incorporate QFT principles.
Some approaches to quantum gravity that incorporate QFT's include string theory, loop quantum gravity, and causal dynamical triangulation. These theories all use different mathematical frameworks to try and reconcile the principles of quantum mechanics and general relativity.
One of the main challenges in developing a theory of quantum gravity using QFT's is the problem of infinities. QFT's often produce infinite values when calculating physical quantities, which makes it difficult to apply them to gravity, as gravity is a long-range force that requires precise calculations. Additionally, there is currently no experimental evidence to support any of the proposed theories, making it difficult to determine which approach is the most accurate.
