What are some common misconceptions about physics and engineering?

Hi All

I have no real formal education in physics or engineering. Other than a bit of basic science and maths form school and studying to be an Architect ( yes the guys that just draw pretty pictures)

Now and then I have some mind boggling questions, that I don't understand so hopefully this is the right forum to be!
