What Are Some Sources for Quotes on Being an Educated Person?

I'm seeking a few quotes on "what it means to be an educated person" for an assignment I'm working on for my writing class. I have found a ton of really good ones online, but the problem is that they only list the author and not the source (book, interview, speech, etc.) and the source can be pretty hard to track down. The objective is just to use them so create a sample annotated bibliography, so I have to seek out the full details.

I thought I would ask you guys if you have any favorites you could share. I would greatly appreciate it if you have any suggestions.

And if you know of a website where I could find quotes with sources included that would be awesome, too!

You could skim through the quotes in the Favorite quotes thread. A few of the mentors also have some good ones along those lines for their sigs.

OK, thanks, I'll try that. But I think it will still be hard to "source" them. For instance I found a great quote from Alvin Toeffler, and I was able to guess that it was from "Future Shock" because I read the book a hundred years ago, but getting absolute proof that he wrote it in that particular book took several hours of searching.

For variety, you could also look in court cases and decisions regarding education. For instance, this is from the Brown v. Board of Education majority opinion:

Today, education is perhaps the most important function of state and local governments. It is required in the performance of our most basic public responsibilities, even service in the armed forces. It is the very foundation of good citizenship.
