Beam cross-sections vary widely, with resources available for standard beams and specific types like I-beams. Free look-up tools are provided, but some resources require a subscription, with options ranging from $6 per month to $96 per year for enhanced features. Users are encouraged to learn manual calculation methods before utilizing software packages, which can serve as useful shortcuts. The discussion highlights the importance of understanding beam mechanics, referencing a specific Beam Statics Package for Mathematica as a valuable tool. Overall, familiarity with both theoretical and practical aspects of beam cross-sections is essential for effective application in engineering.

My idea is that I want to use immerse Whitetail Antlers in a fishtank to measure their volumetric displacement (the Boone and Crockett system is the current record measurement standard to place in a juxtaposition with) I would use some sight glass plumbed into the side of the tank to get the change in height so that I can multiply by the tank cross-section. Simple Idea. But... Is there a simple mechanical way to amplify the height in the sight glass to increase measurement precision...
