SUMMARY

The term 'jiffy' refers to different time measurements across various fields, including electronics, computing, and physics. In electronics, a jiffy is defined as 1/60 or 1/50 of a second, corresponding to the time between alternating current power cycles. In computing, it represents the duration of one tick of the system timer interrupt. In astrophysics and quantum physics, as defined by Edward R. Harrison, a jiffy is the time it takes for light to travel one fermi, the size of a nucleon.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of alternating current (AC) cycles
  • Familiarity with system timer interrupts in computing
  • Basic knowledge of quantum physics and astrophysics
  • Awareness of measurement units in scientific contexts
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the concept of alternating current and its cycles
  • Learn about system timer interrupts in operating systems
  • Explore the relationship between light speed and quantum measurements
  • Investigate other unconventional units of measurement in science
USEFUL FOR

Students and professionals in electronics, computer science, and physics who seek to understand the diverse applications and definitions of time measurements in their respective fields.

I'm watching the History Channel program Modern Marvels "Measure It" and learned there is a unit of measurement called the Jiffy.
In electronics, a jiffy is the time between alternating current power cycles, 1/60 or 1/50 of a second...

In computing, a jiffy is the duration of one tick of the system timer interrupt.

In astrophysics and quantum physics a jiffy is, as defined by Edward R. Harrison,[5] the time it takes for light to travel one fermi, which is the size of a nucleon.

So every time I told someone I would be there in a jiffy, I was lying.

Who knew?

my life is in shambles from this revelation.

Is it also a derivative of a jerk?
