SUMMARY

Thinking in words refers to the cognitive process where individuals articulate their thoughts internally, often through an inner monologue. This discussion highlights that while most people experience a natural tendency to think in words, there are variations in how individuals process thoughts, with some favoring verbal expression and others relying on imagery. The concept of "dominance" in thought patterns indicates that individuals may have a preference for either verbal or visual thinking. Understanding these differences can enhance communication and cognitive strategies.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of cognitive psychology concepts
  • Familiarity with inner monologue and self-talk
  • Knowledge of visual versus verbal thinking styles
  • Basic comprehension of neurolearning principles
NEXT STEPS
  • Research cognitive psychology theories on thought processes
  • Explore techniques for enhancing verbal thinking skills
  • Learn about neurolearning strategies for effective communication
  • Investigate the impact of imagery in cognitive processing
USEFUL FOR

This discussion is beneficial for cognitive psychologists, educators, communication specialists, and anyone interested in improving their thinking and communication skills.

I don't think this is the correct forum category for this discussion.

Something basic to read:

I would have thought everyone thinks in words (at least for the most part). You have a natural inner monologue which is words, which is your natural thought pattern. As you sit here typing you are speaking the words either internally or externally. This is thinking in words.

When you think, do you "say" things in your head or do you picture them (in image format)?

Right.
Internal pre-expression can be different in different people.
Whereas we all have internal "speaking" and we all have internal "imagery" there is a "dominance" difference.
