Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around determining a suitable thickness for an endplate in a spinal disc implant. Participants explore the use of Winkler foundations as a potential approach to this design problem, while also addressing issues related to accessing visual references.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory, Technical explanation, Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • One participant is seeking guidance on how to determine the thickness of a rectangular plate for a spinal disc implant endplate, considering the use of Winkler foundations.
  • Another participant expresses difficulty in accessing the provided image link, which may hinder understanding of the design context.
  • A suggestion is made to search for additional forums that discuss Winkler foundations, indicating a potential resource for further exploration.
  • Concerns are raised regarding the appropriateness of using Winkler foundations for this application, with a participant questioning if it is the correct approach given the nature of the problem.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants do not reach a consensus on the suitability of Winkler foundations for the design problem, and there is uncertainty regarding the accessibility of the visual reference that may be critical for the discussion.

Contextual Notes

Limitations include the inability to access the image that may provide essential context for the design considerations, as well as the potential complexity of applying Winkler foundations to the specific problem at hand.

rectangular plate bending...

I am designing an endplate for a spinal disc implant as shown in the image below.

http://img155.imageshack.us/my.php?i...ndplatenb5.jpg"

I need to determine a suitable thickness of plate h. I thought about looking into winkler foundations to begin with but i have not studied this as yet and my supervisor has since told me this is too complex. Looking at the picture above how might i go about finding this suitable thickness of plate h?

Thanks

I am unable to open the link.

There also may be some forums that could be of some use, search "winkler foundations".

Winkler foundations are usually meant for beams on flexible foundations. Are you sure that is what you really need (I can't open the link either)?
