Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around the concept of delta (Δ), its meaning, and its applications in various contexts, particularly in physics. Participants explore its significance in representing change and its usage in equations related to velocity and momentum.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory, Conceptual clarification, Homework-related

Main Points Raised

  • One participant asks about the definition and usage of delta (Δ) in various contexts.
  • Another participant suggests that the inquiry may be homework-related and prompts the original poster to conduct a search.
  • The original poster clarifies that their question is personal and not homework-related.
  • A participant identifies Δ as representing change, providing an example with velocity (Δv = vf - v0) and questions how it applies to momentum (Δp = p1 - p0).
  • Another participant confirms the previous statement about Δ and notes its flexibility in usage, indicating it can be applied to various quantities.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants express varying levels of understanding and interpretation of delta (Δ), with no consensus reached on its broader implications or specific applications beyond the examples discussed.

Contextual Notes

Some assumptions about the context and definitions of delta may not be fully articulated, and the discussion does not resolve the broader implications of its use in different fields.

What is delta ##Δ##, where and why do we use it ?

Sounds like homework. What have you found in your Google/Wiki search?

I haven't actually searched, I thought I would get a better answer here, it's not homework, it's my own question.

As you wish.

Hm, I see it is change , thanks, so like ##v## is velocity but ##Δv=v_f-v_0##, but what would be ##Δp## (delta momentum), ##p_1-p_0##?

Yes.

it's a greek letter and you can use it for whatever you want.
