What is the best beginner textbook for learning electrical engineering?

I was recently denied internal transfer to my University's Electrical Engineering degree program. Though I'm perfectly happy going into either chemistry or physics, I would still like to learn a bit of electrical engineering in my spare time. Could someone give me some suggestions on an absolute beginners textbook to electrical engineering.
