SUMMARY

The chemical equation for the titration of acetylsalicylic acid (ASA) with sodium hydroxide (NaOH) is C9H8O4 + NaOH → C9H7O4Na + H2O. In this reaction, the carboxylic acid group of ASA donates a proton to NaOH, resulting in the formation of the sodium salt of ASA and water. This process illustrates the neutralization reaction between an acid and a base, fundamental in acid-base chemistry.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of acid-base reactions
  • Familiarity with chemical formulas and molecular structures
  • Knowledge of titration techniques
  • Basic grasp of organic chemistry, particularly carboxylic acids
NEXT STEPS
  • Study the principles of acid-base titration
  • Learn about the properties and reactions of carboxylic acids
  • Explore the role of sodium hydroxide in neutralization reactions
  • Investigate the applications of titration in pharmaceutical analysis
USEFUL FOR

Chemistry students, laboratory technicians, and professionals involved in pharmaceutical research or quality control who require a deeper understanding of titration processes and organic acid behavior.

Titration chemical equation

Ok so the equation is for a titration of sodium hydroxide and ASA(asprin) I believe the chemical formula of asprin to be C9H8O4 and sodium hydroxide is
NaOH. so the formula goes C9H8O4 + NaOH --> ?
If someone knows the rest of the formula it would be a great he

ASA (acetylsalicylic acid) is an aromatic carboxylic acid. The carboxylic acid is titrated with NaOH in your example. Remove a proton from the formula (C9H8O4) and replace it with a sodium to show the product.
