Hello,
I have posted a homework help request and subsequently documented my attempts to solve it, in two further replies to it.
I have replied to my original request because after some time the original post was no longer editable.
But now it appears that my help request has already two replies, but it was just me writing additional work. And I am worried that people will not read the thread because they believe it has already been answered!

What can I do? What is the correct way to update a post after some time?

thanks a lot!

Can you give a link to the thread?

Usually it is best just to add a reply with the new information. If there is an error or omission in your post and nobody has replied to it yet, you can click "Report" in your post and ask the Mentors to do whatever edits you need.

In general it's best not to make changes to a post of yours after it has received replies, because that can be confusing to others reading the thread if your first post keeps changing after others have responded to it. If you do need to make a change to a post, it's best to use "strikeout" to show what you are changing, and then post the updated text next to it. Like this:

I think I found the answer. Edit -- Oops, no I didn't find the answer...

Yes, that's done on purpose to help prevent the confusion I mentioned above, and because some edits can be malicious (as in link spam by crafty spammers). I think the thread start is okay, and hopefully you will get some helpful replies soon.
