SUMMARY

The electric field is defined as the region around a charged particle where a force would be exerted on a positive test charge. It is a vector field that points away from positive charges and towards negative charges, following the convention that electric field lines originate from positive charges and terminate at negative charges. Understanding the direction of the electric field is crucial for analyzing electric forces and potential energy in electrostatics.

PREREQUISITES
  • Basic understanding of electric charge and its properties
  • Familiarity with vector fields and their representations
  • Knowledge of electrostatics principles
  • Ability to interpret diagrams of electric fields
NEXT STEPS
  • Study the concept of electric field lines and their significance
  • Learn about Coulomb's Law and its application in calculating electric fields
  • Explore the relationship between electric fields and electric potential
  • Investigate the behavior of electric fields in different materials

why must every power line begins at a posetiv charge and end on a negative charge.

It starts and ends on positive and negative charges by convention. The direction of the electric field is defined as the direction of force that the field applies on a positive test charge. Hence, the field points away from areas of net positive charge and towards areas of net negative charge.
