What is the error of the trendline in Excel with error bars?

SUMMARY

The discussion centers on calculating the error of a trendline in Excel, specifically regarding the use of error bars. Users express uncertainty about Excel's capabilities in providing this information directly. It is confirmed that while Excel can display the R-squared value as a measure of goodness of fit, it does not natively calculate the error of the trendline. For more advanced analysis, the commercial add-on "Fitting Tools" is recommended as it offers refined methods for trendline error calculations.

PREREQUISITES
  • Familiarity with Excel 365 graphing features
  • Understanding of trendline concepts in data analysis
  • Knowledge of R-squared as a statistical measure
  • Awareness of third-party Excel add-ons like Fitting Tools
NEXT STEPS
  • Research how to display R-squared values in Excel trendlines
  • Explore the functionalities of the Fitting Tools add-on for Excel
  • Learn about calculating standard error in regression analysis
  • Investigate alternative software for advanced trendline analysis, such as R or Python libraries
USEFUL FOR

Data analysts, researchers, and Excel users seeking to enhance their data visualization skills and understand trendline accuracy in their graphs.

i have added a trendline, but i want to know what the "error" of the trendline is?

I'm not aware of Excel being able to do this. You might try a google search, probably somebody else has figured out a way to calculate what you want.

Think the "options" of the trendline contain the possibility to display R-squared as goodness of fit, but that's probably it. The addon - fitting tools (commercial which know of) contain more refined means.
