SUMMARY

The discussion centers around the identification of the Lawrence Berkeley Pocket Book, which is likely the Particle Data Book published by the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. This book provides updated values for physical constants and is distributed every few years. Users can access the latest information and editions through the official website at pdg.lbl.gov. The book is a valuable resource for those needing accurate constant values in scientific contexts.

PREREQUISITES
  • Familiarity with physical constants and their significance in scientific research.
  • Understanding of the importance of reliable data sources in academia.
  • Basic knowledge of how to navigate scientific publications and databases.
  • Awareness of the role of the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in scientific research.
NEXT STEPS
  • Visit the Particle Data Group website at pdg.lbl.gov to access the latest Particle Data Book.
  • Research the significance of physical constants in various scientific fields.
  • Explore how to effectively utilize scientific databases for accurate data retrieval.
  • Investigate the history and contributions of the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory to the scientific community.
USEFUL FOR

Researchers, educators, and students in the fields of physics and engineering who require accurate and up-to-date values for physical constants will benefit from this discussion.

During a lecture yesterday a professor was stuck on trying to remember a value for a constant and pulled a small book out of his shirt pocket and got the right value. I asked what the book was and he couldn't recall the title as his was so old the cover was a smeared mess but he was pretty certain it was a book that Lawrence Berkeley sent out every few years about current values for constants and such. Does anyone know what it is I'm speaking of and where to get one? Thanks!

It's probably the Particle Data Book.

I used to get one every other year.
