SUMMARY

The symbol for the continuous product in mathematics is referred to as a "product integral," denoted by ##\prodi##. This notation is analogous to the discrete product symbol ##\prod## and the continuous integral symbol ##\int##. Various representations for the product integral include ##\int\!\!\!\!\!\times##, ##\int\!\!\!\!_P##, and an elongated lowercase "pi." In practice, the standard discrete product symbol ##\Pi## is often used when the context clarifies its meaning.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of discrete summation and its symbol ##\sum##
  • Familiarity with continuous integration and its symbol ##\int##
  • Knowledge of discrete product notation ##\prod##
  • Basic mathematical notation and symbols
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the concept of product integrals in advanced calculus
  • Explore the applications of product integrals in mathematical analysis
  • Learn about the differences between discrete and continuous mathematical operations
  • Investigate the use of LaTeX for mathematical typesetting, focusing on custom symbols
USEFUL FOR

Mathematicians, students of calculus, and anyone interested in advanced mathematical notation and its applications.

If the discrete summation is symbolized by ##\sum## and the continuous by ##\int##, so, by analogoy, the discrete product is symbolized by ##\prod## and you already thought what is the symbol for the continuous product?

It's called a "product integral" and has symbol:

##\prodi## ... drat PFLatex may not have one!

Looks like: ##\int\!\!\!\!\!\times## or ##\int\!\!\!\!_P## though I figure a cap-pi would work too ... since the sum-integral symbol is ##\int\!\!\!\!\! _\Sigma## ... the display mode would look like:
$$\int\!\!\!\!\!\!\times\; ,\qquad \int\!\!\!\!\!\! P\; ,\qquad \int\!\!\!\!\!\! \Pi$$

... or a tall, elongated, but lower-case letter "pi".

Usually acceptable to just use the regular discrete product ##\Pi## since the context can make the meaning clear.
