What Is the Term for the Slope Transition Point in Calculus?

Click For Summary
SUMMARY

The discussion centers on identifying the term for the slope transition point in calculus, specifically where the slope of a function changes from less than -1 to greater than -1. Participants noted that there is no widely recognized term for this specific transition point. The inquiry included a visual representation of the function fitted to a scatter plot, highlighting the transition point. The consensus is that no established terminology exists for this concept in standard calculus references.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of calculus concepts, particularly slope and derivatives.
  • Familiarity with functions and their graphical representations.
  • Basic knowledge of exponential functions and their properties.
  • Ability to interpret scatter plots and fitted functions.
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the concept of critical points in calculus.
  • Explore the properties of derivatives and their implications on function behavior.
  • Learn about inflection points and their significance in curve analysis.
  • Investigate the terminology used in advanced calculus or mathematical analysis literature.
USEFUL FOR

Students of calculus, mathematics educators, and anyone interested in the nuances of function behavior and slope transitions in mathematical analysis.

I have attached an image of a function that I fit to a scatter plot, and I would like to know if there is a term for the point on the function at which the slope transitions from being less than -1 to greater than -1. I have highlighted this point approximately in yellow. Thanks!http://static1.squarespace.com/static/54dfaacbe4b0a566f120550f/t/55481b19e4b03cee0385b39a/1430788890834/?format=750w

There's no term describing this that I've ever heard of.
