What Should The Next Science Fiction Monster Be?

Click For Summary
The discussion centers on the perceived stagnation in the creation of innovative sci-fi monsters, with references to iconic examples like the graboid from "Tremors" and the influence of "Alien" on the genre. Participants express a desire for fresh concepts, suggesting ideas such as a brain-controlling parasite, a colossal alien that consumes planets, and a black hole creature that disassembles its victims. Various humorous and absurd ideas are proposed, including monstrous fruit and a cute antagonist capable of inducing hemorrhoids. The conversation touches on past films and series that have explored similar themes, highlighting a sense of nostalgia for original monster designs while critiquing the recycling of old concepts in modern media. Overall, there is a call for creativity and originality in the portrayal of sci-fi monsters.

What's that thing on the black hole monster's chest? The time travel spiral from Austin Powers?

They're obviously gravity waves or some type of hypnosis device.

He would have to be the physicist responsible for creating the black hole monster. I think it happened during a hypnagogic state when he was thinking about the density of mercury and the hole, or interior cavity, of a hat. From this, and his madness, the thought form of the black hole monster emerged.

You prolly never saw Bambi meets Godzilla.
And leave us not forget the sequel: Bambi's Revenge. Even better.
I think that the next monster should be a seemingly innocuous fellow who can induce haemorrhoids by sheer will-power. (Even better if he runs a Mexican restaurant.)

This is the premise of the film Species. If you haven't seen it, I recommend renting it. It's very well done. The first sequal, Species II is almost as good, and worth watching. The third isn't worth it.

David Brin's books [uplift] have a whole univerce of aliens not just one type
to bad they blew the postman movie one of the few books of Brin's without his
cast of thousands of aliens types

Dolfins and chimps in space is just a good small subplot too

The black hole monster is not an authentic black hole, just something that roughly mimics one. In fact, there may be several physicists in the film who have constantly to point this out to the media and the public, but people will still keep calling it "the black hole monster."

How about Shadow People ala Coast to Coast? The only movie I have seen personally that uses something like them is the movie Ghost when the demons come.

Maybe Nanites? Have they use them in a horror flick yet? They could turn people into tech zombies. Or there's always Greg Bear's grey goo scenario but that's just a more indepth version of The Blob really.

Maybe Nanites?

Oh! Good idea!

The X-Files had a lot of good monster men thingies that could have been developed into whole movies. There was the stretchy, liver-eating guy, the African ghost guy, and the cancer eating guy, as well as the, sort of, shark-boy in human clothing. They kind of ran through and used up a lot of good ideas on mere one-hour programs.
