What would be the implications of a pseudoscientific 5th fundamental force?

AI Thread Summary
In a sci-fi parapsychology narrative featuring a real psychic force, the implications for established scientific principles are significant. The introduction of a psi force suggests alterations to particle physics, quantum physics, relativity, and classical physics, as well as consciousness. This force implies a higher power and a non-computational aspect of consciousness, allowing for the manipulation of reality by individuals. While rewriting the laws of physics can provide creative freedom, achieving consistency with existing scientific frameworks may be challenging. Developing a coherent mechanism for the psi force is essential for maintaining narrative plausibility within the fictional world.

heyyy, im writing a sci fi parapsychology related story and it has a bunch of pseudoscience, including a real psi force. to make my story more accurate and to have more ideas I'm curious about the implications of such a force for the rest of science in my fictional world assuming that the force is the main alteration from the real world. essentially, what happens to particle physics, quantum physics, relativity, classical physics, consciousness etc with there being humans who can control a psychic force with their mind and influence reality ? it implies a higher power and non-computational consciousness, correct? so I could incorporate that into the fictional world? I need to come up with a mechanism for all of it too

thank you if anyone helps me w this !!!

Welcome to PF.

There's not a lot of restrictions here. When you rewrite the laws of physics you can say they are anything you want. If you are looking for consistency though, between your new law and the rest of existing physics, you are unlikely to reliably find it.

Here's a thread of speculation about something like this. http://hi.gher.space/forum/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=2340 Any further discussion would be better to take place over there instead of here, I think.

We've just had an interesting thread about generation ships, but I don't think that that is the most reasonable way to colonize another planet. Fatal problems: - Crew may become chaotic and self destructive. - Crew may become so adapted to space as to be unwilling to return to a planet. - Making the planet habitable may take longer then the trip, so the ship needs to last far longer than just the journey. - Mid-flight malfunction may render the ship unable to decelerate at the destination...
I know this topic is extremely contraversial and debated, but I'm writing a book where an AI attempts to become as human as possible. Would it, eventually, especially in the far future, be possible for an AI to gain a conscious? To be clear, my definition of a consciousness being the ability to possess self-created morals, thoughts, and views, AKA a whole personality. And if this is possible (and let's just say it is for this question), about how long may it take for something to happen...
This is a question for people who know about astrophysics. It's been said that the habitable zones around red dwarf stars are so close to those stars that any planets in the zones would be tidally locked to the stars in question. With one side roasting and another side freezing almost forever, those planets wouldn't be hospitable to life. a) Could there be forms of life--whole ecologies--that first evolve in the planet's twilight zone and then extend their habitat by burrowing...
