SUMMARY

The discussion centers on locating oil properties for Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis of valves using CFX software. A specific density of 918 kg/m³ for oil is mentioned, highlighting the need for accurate material properties in simulations. Users are advised to refer to online resources or materials handbooks to find the necessary oil properties based on its composition. The conversation emphasizes the importance of precise fluid characteristics in CFD modeling.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of CFD principles and applications
  • Familiarity with ANSYS CFX software
  • Knowledge of fluid properties and material composition
  • Access to materials handbooks or online databases for fluid properties
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the specific oil types and their properties for CFD analysis
  • Explore ANSYS CFX documentation for material library usage
  • Learn how to utilize online databases for fluid property lookup
  • Investigate the impact of fluid density on CFD simulation results
USEFUL FOR

Hi

i am carrying out CFD analysis on a valve and i would like to use a material of OIL as the fluid body. i have already carried out simulations with water and air, can anyone tell me were i can find the properties of oil (ie density 918kg/m³) in the materials library as at the moment this has me stumped. Any help would be appreciated.
thanks in advance

It depends on the type of oil you're using. Once you know the composition, you should be able to look it up online, or in any materials handbook.
