SUMMARY

The discussion centers on course selection for students pursuing a Physics or Electrical Engineering (EE) degree. Participants recommend taking Physics 2 (E&M) immediately after completing Physics 1, as it is a standard progression in the curriculum. Additionally, Ordinary Differential Equations (Diff Eq) is suggested as a complementary course if the student opts to double up. The consensus is clear: prioritize Physics 2, especially for those planning to advance in EE or Physics.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of calculus, specifically Calc 1 and Calc 2
  • Familiarity with Linear Algebra concepts
  • Basic knowledge of classical mechanics from Physics 1
  • Awareness of course structures in Physics and Electrical Engineering
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the curriculum requirements for a Physics or EE degree
  • Explore the content and prerequisites for Complex Variables 1
  • Study the applications of Ordinary Differential Equations in Physics
  • Investigate the relationship between Physics 2 and Electrical Engineering principles
USEFUL FOR

This discussion is beneficial for students pursuing a Physics or Electrical Engineering degree, academic advisors, and anyone involved in course planning for STEM education.

I am working toward an eventual Physics or EE degree.

I currently have completed the following courses online in this order;

Calc 1, Calc 2, Linear Algebra, Phys 1 (calc based classical mech), working on vector Calc 3.

The following are available for me:

- Complex Variables 1
- Ordinary Diff Eq
- Phys 2 (E&M)

Of the three, which one should I pick next?

Thanks

if you might go into EE or Physics, by all means take PHY 2 next. You don't need the higher maths till later. Typically, PHY 2 is taken immediately after PHY 1.

Ordinarily, with a full course load, taking two makes more sense than taking one. If taking only one, Physics 2 makes the most sense.
