Which Field of Research should be chosen in Mechanical Engineering

AI Thread Summary
Choosing a research area in Mechanical Engineering for a PhD requires a genuine interest and passion for the subject. Starting a PhD without a clear focus may lead to challenges, as a strong fascination with a specific field is crucial. Participants emphasize that personal interest should guide the decision, rather than solely market considerations. Ultimately, the individual must reflect on what excites them most in the discipline. A successful PhD journey hinges on aligning personal interests with research topics.

I might suggest that you made a mistake starting a PhD without an interest in any particular research area.

my brother, i have mathematical background, i have a very strong interest... and i think i can do it... I just want to get an idea of the market... finally i will choose mine... just suggestion.

That isn't all you need for a PhD in engineering. You need to have a passion for your field. If you don't have any idea which research branch fascinates you, then you shouldn't be getting a PhD at this time.

So the question you should be asking is which branch of research do you find most fascinating?

yes this is what i mean...

Well we can't answer that for you. Only you know what you consider fascinating.

Here's a video by “driving 4 answers” who seems to me to be well versed on the details of Internal Combustion engines. The video does cover something that's a bit shrouded in 'conspiracy theory', and he touches on that, but of course for phys.org, I'm only interested in the actual science involved. He analyzes the claim of achieving 100 mpg with a 427 cubic inch V8 1970 Ford Galaxy in 1977. Only the fuel supply system was modified. I was surprised that he feels the claim could have been...
Thread 'Turbocharging carbureted petrol 2 stroke engines'
Hi everyone, online I ve seen some images about 2 stroke carbureted turbo (motorcycle derivation engine). Now.. In the past in this forum some members spoke about turbocharging 2 stroke but not in sufficient detail. The intake and the exhaust are open at the same time and there are no valves like a 4 stroke. But if you search online you can find carbureted 2stroke turbo sled or the Am6 turbo. The question is: Is really possible turbocharge a 2 stroke carburated(NOT EFI)petrol engine and...
