Which View to Show for a Horizontal Cut?

Click For Summary

Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around the appropriate representation of views when making a horizontal cut in technical drawings. Participants are exploring how to depict section views accurately, particularly in the context of homework related to engineering or technical drawing.

Discussion Character

  • Homework-related
  • Technical explanation
  • Conceptual clarification

Main Points Raised

  • One participant expresses confusion about which view to show for a horizontal cut, referencing an example from their book regarding vertical cuts.
  • Another participant clarifies that the arrows on the cut line indicate the direction from which the section view is shown, suggesting that this direction should be chosen to convey necessary information.
  • A participant seeks further clarification on how to draw the section and requests information about its shape, indicating a lack of resources in their book.
  • Another participant reiterates the request for guidance on the shape of the section and provides a link to a tutorial for additional information.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants do not appear to reach a consensus on the specifics of how to represent the section view for a horizontal cut, with ongoing requests for clarification and resources.

Contextual Notes

There are limitations in the provided resources, as participants mention a lack of information in their textbooks and seek external links for guidance.

Homework Statement

I don't understand the cuts or the views. For example if we make a horisontal cut, which view we should show?

The Attempt at a Solution

I have in the book an example that if we make a vertical cut we show the upper view (view seen from upside down.

The arrows on the cut line show the direction the section view is show from. We choose the arrow direction so the section view shows the information we need it to.

So I have to draw a section, right? Could you tell me what its shape will be or how should I draw it? In my book there is no information about this. Or could you send me a link that gives more information?
