In summary, pharmaceutical companies are responsible for developing vaccines, antibiotics, and antiviral drugs. To pursue a career in developing these medications, one could study biomedical science, pharmacology, molecular medicine, or biochemistry. The actual creation of drugs is typically done by chemists, while those with a background in biomedical science test and research potential medications.

Pharmaceutical companies generally.

Something like biomedical science would be the sort of subject to start with.

If you want to develop drugs (i.e. see them go from the lab all the way to market) a pharmaceutical company is your best. If you want to research potential drugs then most universities biomedical departments conduct the preliminary work.

Either way a degree in pharmacology, molecular medicine or biochemistry would be a good bet

The people in pharmaceutical companies responsible for actually making the drugs are generally chemists (organic chemists to be specific). People with training in the biomedical sciences would be the ones testing the various drugs the chemists create.

What is a vaccine and how does it work?

A vaccine is a biological preparation that helps protect against a particular disease by stimulating the body's immune system to recognize and fight off the disease-causing agent. It typically contains a weakened or dead version of the disease-causing agent, which allows the body to develop immunity without actually getting sick.

Who is responsible for developing vaccines?

Vaccines are developed by a team of scientists and researchers, including microbiologists, immunologists, and medical doctors. They work in government agencies, pharmaceutical companies, and research institutions to create safe and effective vaccines.

Who is responsible for regulating and approving vaccines?

In the United States, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is responsible for regulating and approving vaccines. They review the safety and effectiveness of vaccines before they can be used in the general population.

Who is responsible for administering vaccines?

Healthcare professionals, such as doctors, nurses, and pharmacists, are responsible for administering vaccines. They are trained to safely and accurately administer vaccines according to established guidelines and protocols.

Who is responsible for ensuring the safety of vaccines?

The safety of vaccines is a shared responsibility between the government, healthcare professionals, and vaccine manufacturers. The FDA and other regulatory agencies continuously monitor the safety of vaccines, while healthcare professionals carefully follow guidelines for administering them. Vaccine manufacturers also conduct extensive testing and quality control measures to ensure the safety of their products.
