Hi all pf members can someone tell me please the top ten of bests living string theorists I am waiting for please
The discussion centers on identifying the top ten living string theorists, with Edward Witten frequently mentioned as a leading figure. Participants express the difficulty in ranking theorists due to the subjective nature of contributions and the limited number of professionals in the field. Notable names such as Sergei Gukov, Anton Kapustin, Lisa Randall, and Leonard Susskind are also highlighted, emphasizing the diversity of expertise within string theory. The consensus is that while many are accomplished, quantifying "best" remains challenging due to the field's complexity.
PREREQUISITESThe discussion is beneficial for physicists, students of theoretical physics, and anyone interested in the current landscape of string theory and its leading contributors.
Yehudi Menuhin has to be one of the best, in the classical sense. For something more upbeat, I'd go with Carlos Santana.narniaoff said:tell me please the top ten of bests living string theorists

f95toli said:One of the problems here is that string theory is a tiny field, there can't be more than perhaps a few hundred people in the whole world who actually work on string theory full time (not counting PhD students). Hence, anyone who is good enough to actually get funding for research in string theory could probably claim to be one of the best in the world in his/her particular sub-field of string theory.
