  • Debate/contested
  • Mathematical reasoning

Main Points Raised

  • Participants are invited to guess a non-negative integer, with the winner being the one who selects the least chosen number.
  • Some participants express skepticism about the game's purpose and the value of guessing random numbers.
  • One participant mentions a similar game on another forum where a player won multiple rounds, raising questions about strategy and outcomes.
  • There is a discussion about the implications of picking numbers based on others' potential choices, leading to a complex reasoning loop about guessing strategies.
  • Concerns are raised about the limitations of private messaging for collecting guesses, particularly with a high number of participants.
  • Some participants engage in playful banter about the nature of guessing and the potential for "hideously large numbers" to be chosen.
  • Clarifications are made regarding the rules, including the prohibition of negative numbers and the importance of not revealing guesses publicly.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants express a variety of opinions on the game's mechanics and strategies, with no clear consensus on the best approach to guessing. Some find the game intriguing, while others are critical or indifferent.

Contextual Notes

There are discussions about the limitations of the guessing process, including the potential for ties and the strategy of choosing numbers based on perceived player behavior.

Hmm, a moderator on another forum ran this game three rounds and the thing that amazed me was that one person won all three rounds. I'm just interested in seeing the results and I'd say that you're not a wierdo if you win...just know how to think right.

Ouch! You'd think that on a board as crowded as this one, more than 5 people would play. If anyone's interested, you can see what we did over at PhilosophyForums.com:

Heyo AKG, I didn't know you were the philosophyforums AKG too. I was referring to Wax on philosophyforums in the first quote  I played in 4 of the 5 rounds there and became interested in the game. After seeing the number of people here, I thought it would be pretty interesting to play here and see the results with a huge (didn't happen) number of people.

Anyways, I'll run another round. Results will be posted in 2 days again. PM me with your guesses...RIGHT NOW!
