Why do so many physicists ignore 'crop circles '?

AI Thread Summary
Research into crop circles, particularly in Wiltshire, has revealed that seeds from affected areas exhibit unusual properties compared to normal crops. Some scientists have published white papers on these findings, although they have not gained widespread acceptance. An intriguing phenomenon known as "Ghost Circles" has been noted, where crop patterns reappear annually despite being ploughed and resown. This discussion parallels the ongoing debate surrounding UFO sightings, which some claim can be detected with infrared technology. However, the consensus among experts is that crop circles have been conclusively proven to be hoaxes, supported by testimonies from hoaxers and scientific analysis. The thread was ultimately closed due to its non-mainstream subject matter.

I have conducted some modest research myself into this phenomenon. It transpires that a few bold scientists have gathered samples of seeds from the flattened areas (Wiltshire), and some from the normal crop. Very interesting results, with the non-normal ones exhibiting strange properties. Some white papers have been published, but they haven't made the grade yet.

It's even possible to note unusual effects purely online! There are so-called Ghost Circles, where the pattern appears year after year, despite the original crop being ploughed and resown by the farmer! How does that phenomenon occur?

There are similar arguments with UFOs - which are all over the world, and which can be easily spotted in infrared light, apparently. I have witnessed one myself. Why are they ignored?

Even some Scientists have unsound beliefs, it seems.

Hi,
PF doesn't host such non-mainstream subjects, so this thread is closed. But FYI, crop circles were - as conclusively as is possible - shown to be hoaxes, both by some of the main hoaxsters coming forward and demonstrating the hoaxes, and by scientific analysis.

Similar to the 2024 thread, here I start the 2025 thread. As always it is getting increasingly difficult to predict, so I will make a list based on other article predictions. You can also leave your prediction here. Here are the predictions of 2024 that did not make it: Peter Shor, David Deutsch and all the rest of the quantum computing community (various sources) Pablo Jarrillo Herrero, Allan McDonald and Rafi Bistritzer for magic angle in twisted graphene (various sources) Christoph...
Thread 'My experience as a hostage'
I believe it was the summer of 2001 that I made a trip to Peru for my work. I was a private contractor doing automation engineering and programming for various companies, including Frito Lay. Frito had purchased a snack food plant near Lima, Peru, and sent me down to oversee the upgrades to the systems and the startup. Peru was still suffering the ills of a recent civil war and I knew it was dicey, but the money was too good to pass up. It was a long trip to Lima; about 14 hours of airtime...
