A Why Is the Hamiltonian Approach Preferred for the Restricted Three Body Problem?

Click For Summary
The discussion highlights challenges in finding papers that derive the equations of motion for the Restricted Three Body Problem (RTBP) using Newtonian mechanics, particularly for the ERTBP. The Hamiltonian and Lagrangian approaches are preferred due to their simplicity in focusing on system energies, making them easier to apply. In contrast, the Newtonian method requires more complex setup involving positions, momentum, and forces. A video is mentioned that demonstrates both Newtonian and Lagrangian methods, illustrating the differences in approach. Overall, the preference for the Hamiltonian approach is linked to its efficiency in analysis.

TL;DR
What are the advantages and disadvantages to the Newtonian and Hamiltonian approach to the Elliptical Restricted Three Body Problem (ERTBP) ?
I am having a difficult time finding papers that derive the equations of motions of the Restricted Three Body Problem using Newtonian mechanics. I have found some (barely) for the CRTBP, but there are none on the ERTBP.

Does it depend on what is being studied within the problem that the Hamiltonian approach is the preferred?Thank you!

The Hamiltonian or Lagrangian approach is used because its simpler dealing only with the energies of the system.

The Newtonian method is far harder to setup properly. There's a fair amount of labeling and keeping track of postions, momentum and forces.

Here's a video where the presenter uses Newtonian methods initially:

and uses python to simulate the system.

In contrast, this presenter uses the Lagrangian methods:

Some 8 years ago I posted some experiments using 2 Software Defined Radios slaved to a common clock. The idea was measure small thermal noise by making correlation measurements between the IQ samples from each radio. This is a project that has kinda smoldered in the background where I've made progress in fits and starts. Since most (all?) RA signals are small thermal signals it seemed like the technique should be a natural approach. A recent thread discussing the feasibility of using SDRs to...
