Will blondes really become extinct?

SUMMARY

The discussion centers on the claim that blondes may become extinct due to the recessive nature of the blonde trait. It is established that while the blonde gene may decline in frequency, especially in populations mixing with others, it will not reach zero. The trait has historically been selected for in certain populations, particularly in Northern and temperate regions, suggesting that it will remain stable unless actively selected against. Thus, the extinction of blondes is not a definitive outcome.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of genetic inheritance, specifically recessive traits
  • Knowledge of population genetics and gene frequency
  • Familiarity with the concept of natural selection
  • Awareness of human migration patterns and their impact on genetic diversity
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the principles of Mendelian genetics and recessive traits
  • Explore population genetics models and their applications
  • Study the effects of natural selection on human traits
  • Investigate the historical migration patterns of populations in Northern and temperate regions
USEFUL FOR

This discussion is beneficial for geneticists, evolutionary biologists, anthropologists, and anyone interested in human genetics and the implications of gene mixing on physical traits.

So I hear a lot how the blonde trait is carried in a recessive gene. Supposedly blonde people will no longer exist in the future as a result. How reliable is this claim?

In the populations where it is significant it has been selected for in the past (had survival or reproductive advantage). As these are large populations it should stay there in them in stable proportion unless it is selected against. Which it is to an extent outside Northern and temperate climes.

However as well as that, if these populations mix a lot with others the frequency should decline but not to 0.
