Today I decided once again to play the game in the future and discovered that 'dates' last 48 hours.
I thought that was very strange.

Sorry, I don't understand what you mean.

I played today's game, virtually, just after midnight, Friday January 13th, in Kiritimati, Kiribati.
That was 6 hours ago, and it won't be Friday for real where I am for another 16 hours, at which point my real Friday with last for 24 hours. Add the two hours to get back to Kiritimati, and that's 48 hours.

time and date in Kiritimati: https://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/kiribati/kiritimati
time and date where I am: https://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/usa/portland-or

I've never heard of such a thing, nor thought about it, so I didn't believe it at first either.

This all came about as I'm currently tabulating how many players play each hour during the full course of a single game, planetwide.

I believe access to this information requires a subscription to the New York Times via Wordlebot.

The game that you play depends on the date of the clock on the device you are using, e.g. if your device's clock is set to 12 Jan 2023 you will play game #572 and you will have to wait until midnight when your device's clock changes to 13 Jan 2023 before you can play game #573. So if everyone around the world has their clock set to the correct local time zone, there will be a period of 48 hours during which game #572 could be being played somewhere in the world.

Very lucky seed word yielded only choice.
According to Wordlebot, 2% of all players so far got it in two guesses.

It looks like my second word (orthogonal to the first) was your seed word because it too eliminated all choices but one.

2) Post your result.
3) Do not spoil the answer.
More useful than just a result given by the NYT, is the distribution of results. The Wordle mobile app does this, although it has a lot of annoying ads.

My distribution has a mode at 4 tries. I suspect it's a Poisson distribution just by the shape. Out of 244 games, I got the word correct 0 times in 1 try, 8 times in 2 tries, 41 in 3, 76 in 4, 74 in 5, and 43 in 6. There is an option to keep going after 6, and I have a few of those, so there's kind of a long tail.

Looks a lot like a Poisson distribution.

Either that, or you're likely to get it in two tries 2% of the time.

In the Wordle app histogram, my performance is 8 correct answers in two tries out of 244 games played. So I'm hitting 3.3%, slightly above that average of 2%.
