You can prevent it from being indexed and after a while it will automatically drop down.

Or, for urgent measures, check the Google support page.

In both cases, by the way, I think you have to prove some way that you are the owner of the website. So not anyone can get it deleted, just you should be able to get it done.

Have you encountered difficulties finding information with a search engine?
I do not mean restricted sites/information due to "national security".
I think that I have found that this is happening.
What are your experiences?

I think the biggest difficulty is too many false positives.

If you want Google to index it, your best bet is to get other pages to link to it.

Search engines are getting clogged with well, basically porn. Safe Search on Google is a good way to go (image-wise at least), but I can't say how many real entries (that you'd actually be interested in) get swallowed up in the process.

What are you seeing that makes you think that your search engine is being censored?

I presume that this question is related to your thread in the computer forum: is your website not showing up on google search? If this is the case, then it doesn't mean that you are being censored!

I often surprised by what I can find (in terms of scientific, technical, news or general information), and sometimes disappointed by what I cannot.

I have noticed that sites are not static, and sometimes links become invalid because the site disappears or the information is removed by the site owner.

Some sites migrate to new ISPs, and some ISP have server crashes.

Some owners just stop maintaining the site.

I don't think my searches have been diverted, censored or interfered with.

I use the Moderate filtering (default) in Google which basically applies to images only. Vocabulary wise I occasionally hit on porn sites with search terms, but very seldom. Science terms outside of body parts seems to not be in porn's frame of reference.

Relevance however is always a problem when its returning 600,000 hits. I generally look through the returns and then refine or restate the search in more specific terms to winnow the returns down. With more pages everyday out there in VirtualLand, the hit numbers rise with the water, though I'm not so sure that it's porn so much as regurgitation of the same or similar material on more and more sites that explains the steady increases, porn included I suppose.

Google has already picked up this thread/discussion.

I do a lot of searching, ... and for the first time ... I found something that is happening that I cannot explain ... google not finding that page OR URL.
Censoring would be bad. I'm Looking for other explanations.

I'm not trying to generate traffic to THAT page.
If you want the specifics and think you can get an explanation then send me a PM and I'll send you the search words and the URL.
Beside, PF would probably want it deleted since it is not an ref. to a "pub. paper"

The info on that page is not porn or sensitive for "national security"

That's because the google spiders are incredibly quick on PF.

Does this page have any ingoing/outgoing links from/to it? If not, then this will be a reason that it hasn't been found!

yes it does
I did a seach for "search engines" and tried out many other engines. The results were the same except for yahoo and another engine.
The page even has "search words" at the beginning.

I noticed that searches for scientific pdfs with the first author's name in full used to find the article on his personal page, for a free download. Doesn't seem to work anymore. Most of the time, it get's you to the publisher's site now on the first search pages, with a big expensive lock on it.

Try to search for "keywords site:domain_in_question" - if it is displayed, site is indexed, just for some reasons not treated as relevant. Could be anything, from low PR, thrugh lack of links, to html error on the page. Sometimes it is pretty frustrating when your page doesn't show in search results, even if it is properly optimized, it has links - just SE doesn't like it for some reason. S**t happens.

I was under the impression that google looked for links to a site, too, but after I started posting here I found that this is probably not the case. It only takes minutes after a post is made before searching for the topic of the post here will start turning up that post as a result. I found this with "google search prevent indexed censored deleted" - which I know it a lot of giberish, but it's impressive considering that the post isn't too old and I doubt anyone is linking to it. Some of my other posts contain more specific phrases and they turn up in a Google search much easier.
