AC Mains Generator -- RPM changes based on load changes
Hi Tom, You mention "When the generator slows down." So, my question is, When does the generator slow down? What makes the generator slow down ..or speed up, initially? Does it have to do with loads (electrical devices) being added and removed from the system (circuit)? Thanks- Ocata

AC Mains Generator -- RPM changes based on load changes
Hi, Scenario: Given a powerplant is being provided a constant power source - like steam is being produced at a steady rate, so that the generator rotates at a constant speed, and in turn, produces a constant electrical frequency. And, suppose, hypothetically, all the power being used...- Ocata

High School Photon exchange in molecular bonds
So a photon is absorbed into and emitted from electrons, causing the electrons to jump energy levels around an atomic nucleus. And enough energy absorbed into the electron will cause the electron to break from the atom altogether. My question is, where does this energy that enters the...- Ocata

Frequency of Modulated Signal: Carrier vs Message
If a carrier signal is 1000 Hz, and my message signal has a bandwidth of 100 Hz. Is there any change in frequency of the modulated signal? Why is it said that the message signal is now operating between 1000hz +/- 100Hz? I thought the original message signal frequency remains unchanged...- Ocata

What does a lightbulb prefer? Volts or Amps?
Okay so if I have a 100W lightbulb and measure its resistance to be 100ohms. Can I say P*R=V^2 100W*100ohms = V^2 10000=V^2 P*W=100V So for a lightbulb with a 100W power rating, I would need a 100V source if the resistance of the lightbulb is 100ohms? And the current would be 100v÷100ohms=...- Ocata

What does a lightbulb prefer? Volts or Amps?
Lightbulbs are rated in watts. Watts = energy/time = volts*current Does it matter if you have a very low voltage source with a very high current or a very high voltage with a very low current? If the voltage and current multiplied meets the power rating, what should it matter what proportion...- Ocata

Potentiometer or Rheostat: Which is more versatile in circuit design?
What's the difference between incoporating a rheostat and a potentiometer into a simple circuit? When you decrease the wiper resistance on a potentiometer, the voltage drop between the potentiometer resistance and load resistance changes so that there's a greater voltage at the load. Well...- Ocata

In a basic series-wound generator, what is "load voltage"
Agreed, As you increase the resistance in the circuit, internal resistance stays the same, so you measure a greater voltage across the battery, because the ratio of voltage drops increases in the direction of external resistance. However, with a DC series wound generator, it says "as the load...- Ocata

In a basic series-wound generator, what is "load voltage"
In the next paragraph, it states that output voltage is the difference between voltage drop and induced voltage. ... however, still not sure where in the single wound series generator system the induced and output voltage are occurring. And how increased resistance induces increased end in the...- Ocata

In a basic series-wound generator, what is "load voltage"
The statement I read is: Because of the way that series-wound generators are constructed, they possesses poor voltage regulation capabilities. For example, as the load voltage increases, the current through the field coils also increases. This induces a greater emf that, in turn, increases the...- Ocata

When Voltage is Constant (DC), is current also constant?
Homework Statement When Voltage is oscillating (A/C), then in a simple circle with steady resistance, the current will be proportional to the voltage. When voltage increases, current will increase. And when voltage decreases, voltage will decrease. Is it also true that in a simple circuit...- Ocata
