Undergrad Why Does Wave Energy Depend on Frequency and Not Wavelength?
Hey, I have a question about waves. Why is it that the energy of a wave depends only on the frequency but not on the wavelength? Shouldn't two waves that have the same frequency but different wavelengths also have a different energy? If not there should be some other quantitiy with which one can...- VVS

Complex Gaussian Integral - Cauchy Integral Theorem
Homework Statement I have to prove that I(a,b)=\int_{-\infty}^{+\infty} exp(-ax^2+bx)dx=\sqrt{\frac{\pi}{a}}exp(b^2/4a) where a,b\in\mathbb{C}. I have already shown that I(a,0)=\sqrt{\frac{\pi}{a}}. Now I am supposed to find a relation between I(a,0) and \int_{-\infty}^{+\infty}...- VVS

Papers on Entropy in Quantum Mechanics Framework
Hey, I am going to write my bachelor's thesis on Entropy in a Quantum Mechanical Framework. My professor told me he would refer me to some literature. However it will take him some time. I would like to get started myself. Could you please refer me to papers, books, articles? I have already read...- VVS

Relativistic Uniform Accelerated Motion
Homework Statement Hi I am supposed to calculate the distance traveled by a particle that is uniformly accelerated with acceleration equal to the Earth's gravity (i.e. a=9.81m/s^2) after 1, 10 and 100 years proper time. Homework Equations We derived in class the four vector which describes the...- VVS

Graduate Understanding Lorentz Group Generators: Derivation & Step in Eq 15
Hi, I am trying to understand the derivation of the Lorentz generators but I am stuck. I am reading this paper at the moment: http://arxiv.org/pdf/1103.0156.pdf I don't understand the following step in equation 15 on page 3: \omega^{\alpha}_{\beta}=g^{\alpha\mu}\omega_{\mu\beta} I don't...- VVS

Fourier Transform Real Function Wave Equation
Hello, I hope somebody can help me with this. 1. Homework Statement I am supposed to show that if there is a function \phi(x,t) which is real, satisfies a linear wave equation and which satisfies \phi(x,0)=0 for x<0 then the Fourier Transform \tilde{\phi}(k) of \phi(x,0) is in the lower...- VVS

Minimal Special Relativity - Reciprocity of Time Dilation
Hello, I hope somebody can help me with this question. Homework Statement I have to prove that time dilation is a reciprocal effect by only using the Postulates of Minimal Relativity Theory: 1. Let I be an inertial frame, then I' moving with a constant velocity in a rectilinear motion with...- VVS

Galilei Transformation Free Schrödinger Equation
Thanks for the derivation. Then there must be some confusion about the exact definition of covariance. Because our professor asked us to prove that the SCHRÖDINGER EQUATION is not covariant under Galilei Transformations. And you can actually show that if you take the Schrödinger equation in the...- VVS

Galilei Transformation Free Schrödinger Equation
Hey, thanks for your attempts to help me. I solved the problem. The Schrödinger equation is not covariant under Galileitransformations, but can be made so by multiplying the wavefunction with a plane wave function.- VVS
