SUMMARY

The discussion centers on testing LaTeX equations, specifically the ellipse equation represented as \(\frac{x^2}{a^2}+\frac{y^2}{b^2}=1\). Users reported issues with the Physics Forums LaTeX preview tool, where pressing Enter does not execute the code but merely moves the cursor. The conversation also references a guide on LaTeX usage found at https://www.physicsforums.com/misc/howtolatex.pdf, highlighting the functionality of the preview feature for drafting posts without submission.

PREREQUISITES
  • Basic understanding of LaTeX syntax
  • Familiarity with the Physics Forums platform
  • Knowledge of mathematical notation for ellipses
  • Experience with online LaTeX rendering tools
NEXT STEPS
  • Explore advanced LaTeX features for mathematical typesetting
  • Learn about the differences between itex and tex formats
  • Investigate troubleshooting techniques for LaTeX rendering issues
  • Practice using the LaTeX preview feature on various platforms
USEFUL FOR

Students, educators, and researchers who need to format mathematical equations using LaTeX, as well as anyone looking to improve their skills in online LaTeX tools.

I tried using site, https://www.physicsforums.com/mathjax/test/preview.html but after putting in the codes and pressing enter, nothing happens. I will test by trying the code tags here:

\frac{x^2}{a^2}+\frac{y^2}{b^2}=1
\frac{x^2}{a^2}+\frac{y^2}{b^2}=1

For reference, I used https://www.physicsforums.com/misc/howtolatex.pdf

The Enter key just moves the cursor to the next line. Clicking outside the box on the other hand...

I wrote a few comments about the "how to latex" document and a few other things (including itex vs. tex) here.

By the way, you can start typing a post and use the preview feature to see what it would look like. No need to actually submit it.
