SUMMARY

The discussion centers on connecting coils in a fractional horsepower single-phase AC motor running at 2900 RPM. The motor features a stator with 8 slots and two windings, each containing 4 coils. The first winding connects coils in a specific sequence across the slots, while the second winding follows a different pattern. The motor operates with a capacitor start and run configuration, where both the starting coil and capacitor remain connected during operation. Users are advised to connect one set of coils in series to receive full voltage, while the other set should receive the same voltage with the capacitor in series.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of AC motor configurations
  • Knowledge of capacitor start and run motors
  • Familiarity with coil winding techniques
  • Basic electrical wiring principles
NEXT STEPS
  • Research AC motor coil interconnection methods
  • Learn about capacitor sizing for AC motors
  • Explore troubleshooting techniques for burned-out motors
  • Study the impact of winding configurations on motor performance
USEFUL FOR

Electric motor technicians, hobbyists repairing AC motors, and anyone involved in the maintenance or design of single-phase AC motors will benefit from this discussion.

I have got a fractional h.p. single phase ac electric motor. It was running at 2900 rpm and burned out. The stator has 8 slots and two windings. The first winding has got 4 coils which are inserted from slot no. 1 to 3 , 3 to 5 , 5 to 7,and7 to 1, the second winding also has 4 coils which are inserted from slot no. 2 to 6, 6 to 2, 4 to 8, and 8 to 4. The motor is capacitor starts , capacitor run with no switch or clutch off any type. i.e. the startor coil and capacitor also remain connected while the motor runs . All the 8 coils same no. of turns and same gauge of wire. Can anybody tell me how to connect these coils?

What is the situation you face?

Did you rewind the coils and are asking how to interconnect them? ie you have two wires per coil, 8 coils, sixteen wires total that you need to connect?
or
Do you have three or four wires and the coils are still interconnected internally?

Generally speaking
one set of 4 coils, likely connected in series, should receive full voltage
the other set of coils should receive same voltage but with the capacitor in series
the capacitor fed coils are likely smaller wire .

can you post a photo? Take a picture, save as jpg on your computer
(i made a pf folder on my desktop just for such things)
and use the picture icon at top of post to select and insert it.
