SUMMARY

On May 12, 2015, Nepal experienced a 7.3 magnitude earthquake, just two weeks after a devastating 7.8 magnitude quake that resulted in nearly 8,000 fatalities and over 17,800 injuries. The recent quake, centered 76 km east of Kathmandu, has confirmed at least 68 deaths, including casualties in India and Tibet, and over 1,200 injuries. The region's geological instability, particularly around Mount Everest, exacerbates the impact on an already impoverished population, with a nominal per capita income of $730. The discussion emphasizes the urgent need for donations to various relief organizations to assist those affected.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of seismic activity and earthquake magnitudes
  • Familiarity with humanitarian aid organizations and their roles
  • Knowledge of the socio-economic conditions in Nepal
  • Awareness of the geographical significance of Mount Everest
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the impact of the 2015 Nepal earthquakes on infrastructure and recovery efforts
  • Explore the role of international aid organizations in disaster relief
  • Learn about earthquake preparedness and building standards in seismic zones
  • Investigate the long-term socio-economic effects of natural disasters on developing countries
USEFUL FOR

This discussion is beneficial for humanitarian aid workers, geologists, social scientists, and anyone interested in disaster response and recovery efforts in developing nations.

Barely 2 weeks after the 7.8 magnitude earthquake which killed nearly 8000 people and injured more than 17,800 ,Nepal was struck by another 7.3 magnitude earthquake on May 12 local time 12:35 pm. Once again in the middle of the day, people were rambling out on the streets of the nation's capital scared for their lives. At least 68 are confirmed dead (50 in Nepal, 17 in India and 1 in Tibet) and more than a 1200 have been reported injured. The quake was centered around 76 km east of Kathmandu, near the Chinese border. Also a US helicopter containing 6 US Marines and 2 Nepali soldiers has gone missing. More info:-

All we can do to help the wounded and the families of the dead from the comfort of our homes is donate.
Nepal is already one of the poorest places on the planet with an nominal per capita income of just $730.
The area around Mount Everest is a hot-spot of geological activity therefore quakes are not exactly unexpected, however the locals are so poor that they simply do not have the money to build better constructions.
So if you can, please consider donating to anyone of these relief sites below:-

Not getting a break. Tough to watch.
Indeed it is.
In case anyone reading this thread is wondering, whether I myself donated or not, I did donate, more than half my family's daily income.
Again from the bottom of my heart, I would request everyone, to donate as much as you can for the people of Nepal.
