I think this is so cool.

I am taking a hoop dance lesson next weekend. I'll probably spend most of it bonking myself in the head with the hoop.

I suggest making sure your fire extinguishers are in working order.

I think I'll save the fire for Lesson #2! :)

yeesh! we just had a 3.4 earthquake here but it was right underneath us!

Oh wow, that looks like a lot of fun. I still have a hula hoop here, I should pick it up and try. It's very good exercise, that's what I bought it for originally

It was funny. All of my neighbors ran outside and I said, "oh, sorry, I was doing aerobics. Hope I didn't disturb you!"

Pretty good shaker, though. My bicycle fell over and some other stuff flew off the shelves.

The hoop lessons are near the Hippy Soap shop so I can get my hip chakra realigned before the class. I also went to an aromatherapy spa on Wednesday and they did a chakra adjustment scalp massage to cure the static cling problem with my hair. It worked pretty well, I think. But it also started raining so there's no telling for sure.

It's the area I live in. Everyone is trying to get at your chakras. I gave up and just started letting them do what they want (as long as it's free - and it feels good).

Lucky you! The epicenter is the best part. It likes to lift things up and place them down gently in unexpected places.

We didn't call them "chakras" when I lived down there.

I don't know if I need to work on balancing my chakras or my epicenters. California life is so confusing.

Funny, I lived in California for more than half of my life but I never saw that side of the culture. I knew about it but never saw it. The first three-eyed, chakra-toting, chant-chanting, trandscendental Californian that I ever met was here in Oregon.

When I went to school in Ashland, Oregon was full of those chakra balancers.

Wow that was cool. The hoops look a bit larger then hula hoops, and my husband wants to know where do we sign up for the 2 people 1 hoop lessons?

I hope your healing crystals didn't get cracked in the quake!

BTW, when you let people start touching your chakras, you're on the downhill slide. What's next? Meth? Home crafts?

Come back to us! Reject the dark side!

I think you need an extra large hoop for two people. I was reading about them on this website that sells custom built hoops and gives instructions on making your own:

http://www.psihoops.com/

I love the LED hoops they make.

Making huge hoops:

http://www.psihoops.com/DIY.htm

If you have a big backyard or live on a quiet street or happen to have a warehouse or big dance studio at your disposal, you might want to try a LARGE hoop. I make mine out of thicker tubing..1/14" ID (internal diameter) 100 psi. This makes a 6 foot diameter hoop if you like. I then wrap that in foam pipe insulation ( a 2" strip of foam with an adhesive backing). There is no need to have the foam tape tightly wrapping the tube, you can leave 1" or slightly more space between the foam as you tape.. I then cover the foam tape with cloth tape, either the 2" or 1". This is partly to support the foam tape because it tends to fray and crumble, particularly at the edges. The foam tape gives extra traction and comfort. Important if you are going to have a heavy large hoop going across your windpipe etc. The large hoops are fun especially for beginners, but interesting for anyone, and a good place to start learning the double hoopster thing (2 people in one hoop).

Monterey and Carmel, California have to be the crystal-toting capitols. I've never seen so many crystal stores in my life.

From the website "...A hoop...your own hoop... a thing of beauty.."

You know, I really must have one now.

I have a long-time friend who is heavily into that stuff. She has a beautiful doubly-terminated crystal that ranges from clear quartz to amethyst. One problem: The "crystal" is REALLY shiny, and the faces are not flat or gently stepped, but heavily polished and slightly curved, indicating that they were formed by hand-holding them on polishing laps. I could have made better "crystals" on my faceting machine (it's like a little machine-shop for rocks). When I pointed this out to her, she got a bit offended. Apparently, mechanically-faceted stones have no healing powers... She did not turn down the lovely aquamarine brooch that I made for her, though.

It blows my mind how they can "kick start" a hoop that's laying flat on the ground and get it swinging around the ankles.

Good grief MIH, are we going to have to get Kurdt to make you a protective suit too?
