Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around the authenticity and technological implications of robot fights, particularly focusing on the mechanisms behind the robots' movements and the potential for Japanese technology to dominate in this field. Participants explore the feasibility of the technology used in the robots, including the use of shape memory alloys and actuators.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory
  • Technical explanation
  • Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • Some participants express excitement about the possibility of real robot fights, questioning the authenticity of the videos shared.
  • One participant raises concerns about the complexity of the robots' movements, suggesting that the number of actuators required seems implausible given the size of the robots.
  • Another participant notes potential signs of video editing, which complicates the assessment of the robots' capabilities.
  • There is a request for more information on 'wire muscles' and their chemistry, indicating a desire for deeper technical understanding.
  • Participants reference external links and resources to provide more context and information about the technology involved.
  • One participant expresses a speculative view on the future dominance of Japanese technology, suggesting a dystopian scenario influenced by advancements in robotics.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants do not reach a consensus on the authenticity of the robot fights or the feasibility of the technology used. Multiple competing views remain regarding the implications of the technology and its potential future impact.

Contextual Notes

Limitations include the lack of clarity regarding the specific technologies used in the robots, the potential for video editing affecting perceptions, and the assumptions made about the capabilities of shape memory alloys.

Is this real!? If so, sweet!

It certainly looked real, but I'm having a bit of trouble figuring out how they got enough actuators into that red bugger to account for all of the movements. Even if they used NiTiNOL wire 'muscles', there shouldn't be room in there for the control circuitry. I'd sure like to see more about it.

I also noticed that at some moments, it seemed like you could see some signs of editing...

That's the problem with low-quality vids. You can't tell what's tampering and what's just lousy photography.

Danger, I have been wondering about 'wire muscles' for a long time. Can you give me a link describing the chemistry of it.

Nice catch, Rach. There are also some references to it over in the Engineering section, but I'm not sure exactly where. Astronuc posted a few different links there that are very informative.

Dear god, those Japs are going to rule the world one day with their know how. And then all their technology will rule them, and we will be living in the matrix. A Japanese made matrix with space saving cubicles to stack more people up for energy...
