SUMMARY

Transfer matrices and scattering matrices are fundamentally linked to the solutions of the Schrödinger equation, which requires knowledge of the Hamiltonian operator (H). Without understanding H, the practical application of these matrices is limited. For those interested in applying these concepts to planar thin films, there is MATLAB code available from a relevant research group, which can facilitate the analysis of such systems. The associated paper provides further insights into the application of these matrices in specific scenarios.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of the Schrödinger equation
  • Familiarity with Hamiltonian operators (H)
  • Knowledge of transfer matrices and scattering matrices
  • Basic proficiency in MATLAB programming
NEXT STEPS
  • Explore the MATLAB code for planar thin films available at the provided link
  • Study the application of transfer matrices in quantum mechanics
  • Research the role of the Hamiltonian in solving the Schrödinger equation
  • Investigate advanced topics in quantum scattering theory
USEFUL FOR

Physicists, quantum mechanics students, and researchers working with quantum systems and thin film analysis will benefit from this discussion.

To my knowledge, to have Transfer matrix or Scattering matrix one has to solve Schrödinger equation so I don't know how these concepts are useful!
