The discussion centers on skepticism regarding supernatural phenomena, with a focus on personal experiences that challenge conventional explanations. The author recounts two vivid dreams: one involving a surreal encounter with their father and another predicting a flood affecting children in a remote area. They explore possible explanations, including remote viewing and coincidence, while expressing uncertainty about the nature of these experiences. The conversation highlights a broader openness to the unexplained, suggesting that human understanding of reality may still be incomplete. Overall, the author seeks insights into these inexplicable occurrences while maintaining a critical perspective on fantastical claims.

The term coincidence is defined as "by mere chance". My personal experience, and the fact that I told my friend of this dream just a day before her mother died unexpectedly, signifies more that a mere chance. The connection of two friends is deeper than we sometimes can explain or understand. This connection I had with her made itself known in my dream, a dream I have remembered since January 22nd 1988. Most dreams we have we tend to forget over time, this one I can still see the images my brain made very clearly. If I was psychic, I might be dreaming incidents of random people, which is what a lot of them claim to do. Sometimes events like these do not need to be labeled, categorized, classified as science must do; sometimes we just need to accept the awesomeness of unexplainable humanness.

My introduction was meant to warn, not to offend.

Hi Kerrie - thanks for the reply.

I am interested to know, that if you agree it wasn't coincidence, and if you agree you're not psychic, where did the dream come from ? What prompted it ?

(I hope you take no offence to this further query, as none is intended).

I agree with what you are saying but you're missing the point of the OP namely the state of mind during this particular experience. I recognized it immediately, but I can see where others might not. Without a doubt there is a "dream" state where one is fully conscious and has full and complete control over one's personal "will" and reasoning abilitities. This is not common in an ordinary dream. The reason it's so interesting from a standpoint of physics is that it is a singularly unique experience of being in an altered reality as real as the one you are familiar with, without actually being in the one you are familiar with. Yes, it is likely a hallucination, but again that's missing the point. The exact point is that it is possible to be a fully functioning human being, with a life and everything that goes with it, without actually being in an awake state. You may not find that interesting, but I find it particularly compelling because it forces one to examing the actual nature of our waking reality from the vantage point of being outside of it.

That is very interesting and intriguing. Can you elaborate ?

Well, I see it as pretty simple. I will lay out a few choices, not letting anything, not personal beliefs, nor ideas that sound completely off, get in the way of this investigation.I will also, for your sake, try to go in a bit of detail on each one.
1. God sent you some sort of vision or dream.
2. OBE or something of that sort.
3. Some sort of mystical or magicish vision sent by some pathway other than God.
4. Neurological disorder that somehow tricked you.
5. Untapped powers of the conscience and consciencness.
6. Something along those lines.

Now number one, you must remember that we have no idea what it is, so please hang around while we discuss. It won't be long, i don't have much time left. It is possible that some sort of higher being sent you this dream/vision to try to tell you something that would help you and the people around you. In the Qu'ran Mohammed is sent enlightenment by their higher being. In the Bible, there are many references of people having dreams just like yours. Ex.King of Babylon in the book of Daniel, Samuel in Samuel1 and 2, the baker and the cupbearer in Genisis with Joseph. All of these had very vivid dreams that came true, many subtly relating very much to yours, and all of these seemed to be only understood by men of God which witnessed that they had been enlightened by God. So, if they know something you don't, this is a gift given by God unto chosen few. In the Bible it says that"...in the end days...and your young men shall dream dreams..." It depends on whether you are willing to accept that answer. Moving on.

Now about OBEs. They are basically the scientific "explanation" for these things, and they still don't understand it. They basically just gave a name to something that occurs in people every now and then, and then said, "Oh yeah, we got this, though...uh...we have absolutlely no idea what we are talking about. So, how about that grant?" From what I see, it is just people that don't like the idea of God busting their heads on a wall trying to find an answer. Do you know what their explanation is for all of this? Exactly what happened. So, they don't know and can't find an answer. Quite credible.

Now, number three requires you to believe in mystics and mediums or some other sort of "black magic" or evil force like Satan in the Bible. The idea behind all of this is that there is some sort of power on the "other side" such as the Dark man, the Voodoo guy, from The Princess and the Frog, gives you power in exchange for something, in the myths, your soul. Possibly them working at your soul, or :eek:some sort of spirit coming over you and telling you things:rolleyes:, but this is not likely and I will tell you why. Evil spirits and Satan, depend on Creation being true to exist. And if all of this was true, they wouldn't have the power to do this because God gives them only limited power, and mind-reading/mind-effecting is not one of them.

The fourth is pretty self explanatory, but has not yet been proven, otherwise, the OBE guys would have already used it to help their cause. On the other hand, it has been proven that dreams come from the brain, but as far as I know, none of these extraordinary dreams has yet been recorded, so we, as of now have no reliable information on the subject.

And, going on to number five, because we know so little about this subject, we cannot make any assumptions, prove any claims, but only say which are more likely to be. We know so little that we cannot discuss this part. But it is very interesting to be probable about it. not now though.

Six is open discussion.

I hope this helped you very much. Please me excuse my noty being able to finish on time. Gotta go. 2 miles in four minutes, wish me luck.
