Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around identifying materials that conduct heat effectively in a microwave, specifically excluding metals. Participants explore various options, focusing on both solid materials and alternatives that may contain water.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory, Technical explanation, Conceptual clarification

Main Points Raised

  • One participant inquires about materials that conduct heat well in a microwave, emphasizing the exclusion of metals.
  • Another participant suggests that water or oil are good conductors but questions the need for a solid material.
  • A later reply confirms the requirement for a solid material specifically.
  • One participant proposes solid Pyrex glassware as a potential option for effective heat conduction in microwaves.
  • Another participant agrees that Pyrex glass conducts heat well.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants generally agree that solid materials like Pyrex glass may be effective for microwave heating, but there is no consensus on other solid materials that might also work.

Contextual Notes

The discussion does not explore the specific properties of the suggested materials in detail, nor does it address potential limitations or conditions under which these materials might perform differently.

I'm trying to make something weird for a side project and I need some information from a physics person...what material, be it glass, plastic, some sort of alloy, etc... would conduct heat best in a microwave? Remember metal is not an option.

Well, water or oil are good ones. But you're probably looking for something solid?

Yes, Solid indeed.

something that has water in it

I should have clarified...I need a solid specifically.

Yeah pyrex glass conducts well
