Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around the challenges of using a prism to disperse white light from a flashlight into a spectrum of colors. Participants share their experiences and suggestions regarding the effectiveness of the prism and the conditions under which it operates.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory, Technical explanation, Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • One participant notes that their prism does not break white light into colors despite trying various angles.
  • Another participant suggests increasing the intensity of the light and minimizing ambient light to improve results.
  • A different participant reports success by holding the prism at an unconventional angle, which differed from the provided instructions.
  • Another suggestion includes using a slit to narrow the incident light beam, emphasizing the importance of angle adjustments.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants express varying experiences with the prism, indicating that there is no consensus on the best method to achieve the desired light dispersion.

Contextual Notes

Some participants mention specific conditions like light intensity and angle adjustments, but the discussion does not resolve the underlying reasons for the differing results.

I have a little prism and I have a bright flashlight the emits white light
and when I shine the flash light into the prism it does not break it up into the colors of the rainbow , any suggestions , I have tried from all angles .

I have the same problem, my prism still kinda sucks by try intensifying the amount of light you put in, also turn out all the lights accept the one your using.

I finally got it to work I had to hold it at a weird angle and it defiantly was not the angle
that hey showed in the instructions.

Try confining the incident ray to a narrow beam by use of a slit. The angle does make a difference so mess around with it and enjoy it.

k thanks
