SUMMARY

The discussion focuses on calculating the normal force and acceleration of a 1.0 kg water bottle being lifted with a force of 4.0 N. The gravitational force (Fg) acting on the bottle is determined to be 9.8 N downward. To find the normal force, one must consider the net force acting on the bottle and apply Newton's second law. The resulting acceleration can be calculated using the formula a = F_net/m, where F_net is the difference between the applied force and the gravitational force.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of Newton's laws of motion
  • Familiarity with gravitational force calculations
  • Knowledge of net force and acceleration concepts
  • Ability to manipulate basic algebraic equations
NEXT STEPS
  • Study Newton's second law of motion in detail
  • Learn how to calculate net force in various scenarios
  • Explore gravitational force calculations for different masses
  • Practice problems involving normal force and acceleration
USEFUL FOR

Students studying physics, particularly those focusing on dynamics and forces, as well as educators seeking to clarify concepts related to normal force and acceleration.

Dynamics Physics help urgent

Homework Statement

Sara wonders what the normal force on her 1.0 kg water bottle would be if she tries to lift it with 4.0 N (she used a Newton spring scale to measure her applied force). What is the bottle's acceleration?

Homework Equations

Fg = mg

The Attempt at a Solution

I found Fg which is 9.8 N downwards.
Not sure what to do after this.
Any help, please?
