SUMMARY

The discussion revolves around a book that explores the concept of transportation between distant worlds through cloning or robotic replication of individuals. The original poster recalls a narrative where genetic information is sent ahead, allowing for the creation of a clone or robotic version of the person. Additionally, a reference is made to an episode of "The Outer Limits" that features a similar cloning transportation device, highlighting the ethical implications of such technology, including the necessity of eliminating the original subject.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of cloning technology and its ethical implications
  • Familiarity with science fiction literature and themes
  • Knowledge of narrative devices in speculative fiction
  • Awareness of television series that explore similar themes, such as "The Outer Limits"
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the ethical considerations of cloning in science fiction literature
  • Explore other science fiction works that feature transportation and cloning, such as "The Forever War" by Joe Haldeman
  • Investigate the portrayal of cloning in television series, particularly "The Outer Limits" and "Black Mirror"
  • Examine the technological feasibility of cloning and its implications for future transportation methods
USEFUL FOR

Science fiction enthusiasts, writers, and researchers interested in the themes of cloning and transportation, as well as those exploring the ethical dilemmas presented in speculative narratives.

ok can anyone actually remember what this book is...
but it had to do with transportion between distant worlds where your genetic information would be sent ahead of time and they would basically clone you, or it may have been create a robotic version of you (it's been years since I read this book)... then when you actaully wanted to arive they would hook your nervous system up to some kind of projection device and you could control this "clone" until you needed to return...
it really has been a while since I read this book... so any help would be greatly apprectiated

No but I saw an Outer Limits episode the other night about a transportation device that cloned you at the other end and they had to kill the original.

Not many volunteers for that one, I guess...
