Can EM Radiation Create Repulsion on Non-Magnetic Objects?

Click For Summary
SUMMARY

Electromagnetic (EM) radiation can indeed produce a repulsive effect on non-magnetic objects due to the interaction of electric charges with the radiation. The force experienced by these objects is a result of the absorption, deflection, or change in direction of EM waves. The discussion emphasizes that any object with electric charges will feel a force in the direction of incoming radiation, confirming the potential for repulsion. For further understanding, the concept of radiation pressure is crucial.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of electromagnetic radiation principles
  • Familiarity with electric charge interactions
  • Basic knowledge of radiation pressure concepts
  • Awareness of force dynamics in physics
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the principles of radiation pressure in detail
  • Explore the effects of EM radiation on various materials
  • Investigate methods to generate and manipulate EM fields
  • Study applications of EM radiation in non-magnetic object propulsion
USEFUL FOR

Physicists, engineers, and researchers interested in the effects of electromagnetic radiation on materials, particularly in the context of propulsion and force dynamics.

Can EM radiations produce repulsive effect on on non magnetic objects? If yes how can such fields be produced?

Anything which can absorb, deflect or change the direction of electromagnetic waves (basically everything with electric charges) will feel a force from them - and at least some part of the force has to be in the direction of the incoming radiation.
