Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around the potential for humans to utilize telluric currents as a source of electricity. Participants explore the feasibility, reliability, and scientific basis of this concept, comparing it to other energy sources and discussing related ideas such as Earth batteries.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory, Debate/contested, Conceptual clarification

Main Points Raised

  • One participant questions whether telluric currents can be used for electricity and mentions a Sci-Fi movie that features this concept.
  • Another participant references patents related to Earth batteries and notes that telluric currents may not be reliable, suggesting that greater potential differences require electrodes to be placed farther apart and deeper underground.
  • A third participant reiterates the initial question about the feasibility of using telluric currents, while also asserting that more conventional energy sources like hydro, solar, and wind are more accessible and reliable.
  • One participant expresses skepticism about the scientific validity of using telluric currents, comparing it to a common battery setup with copper and zinc plates in various solutions, arguing that the described effects are not unique to telluric currents.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants express differing views on the viability of using telluric currents for electricity. While some explore the concept and its potential, others challenge its scientific basis and reliability, indicating that the discussion remains unresolved.

Contextual Notes

Participants mention limitations regarding the reliability of telluric currents and the need for specific conditions to achieve greater potential differences, but these aspects are not fully explored or resolved.

Is there any reason that Telluric Currents can not used by us (humans) for electricity, or has anyone even looked into that? I know there is a Sci-Fi movie about using Telluric Currents.

Some people have patented the idea called Earth batteries:

While I couldn't find any details on telluric current strength, the article did mention that its not always reliable and that for greater potential difference you need the electrodes farther away and deeper in the ground.

Hydro, solar and wind energies are more available, reliable and better to tap into.

I believe this is a sample of pseudo science. If I were to place copper and zinc plates in salt water, dilute acid solution, or dilute alkaline solution, I'd get the same effect. It would not matter whether the plates were oriented North, South, East, or West. I could even place them one above another, because what has been described is the common battery. Wet dirt with the slightest ionic contaminate is the electrolyte, and the zinc electrode will be sacrificed as the current flows.
