In O Level examinations, it is generally acceptable to provide only the final answer without showing step-by-step solutions, unless the question specifically requests the working. However, including the working is considered good practice, as it can help secure partial credit if the final answer is incorrect but the method is correct. This habit is also beneficial for future academic pursuits, such as university, where marks may be awarded based on the working shown.

Without knowing the ins and outs of the syllabus, it is usually acceptable at that level to only give answers unless the question states otherwise (i.e. says show your working), however it is good practice to include it anyway, not least because if you get it wrong but have the correct method, you will only lose the mark awarded for the answer and not get zero for the whole question.
If you go to university then some lecturers will ONLY award marks where the student has working consistent with the final answer, so it's good to get in the habit.

Thank you for your answer. I feel relieved :)

However, before I get onto ultrafast optics I need to improve my electrodynamics knowledge. Should I study Jackson or Zangwill for Electrodynamics? My level at the moment is Griffiths. Given my interest in ultrafast optics in condensed matter, I am not sure which book is better suited for me. If...
