Can I Apply for Grad School After May/June?

Click For Summary

Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around the feasibility of applying for graduate school when an undergraduate degree is not completed until May or June, particularly in relation to application deadlines and transcript requirements. Participants explore potential solutions and clarify the process of obtaining transcripts prior to graduation.

Discussion Character

  • Conceptual clarification, Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • One participant questions whether it is possible to apply for graduate school if their undergraduate transcripts will not be available until after the application deadlines in December.
  • Another participant suggests that applicants can submit their transcripts as they are at the time of application, which is a common practice.
  • A different participant emphasizes that transcripts can be requested at any time before graduation, and they will reflect all completed coursework, which grad schools will consider for admission.
  • There is a reiteration of the point that most applications are typically due nearly a year before the intended start date of the program.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants generally agree that transcripts can be obtained prior to graduation and submitted during the application process. However, there is some uncertainty regarding the implications of application deadlines and the timing of graduation.

Contextual Notes

The discussion does not resolve the potential limitations of applying to programs that may not offer spring admissions or the impact of application timing on school selection.

Hi,

This thing just popped into my head. Although I am 2-3 years away from applying for grad school, is there any way to apply for grad school, fall session, if you can get your undergrad transcripts not before may-june?

Typically, applications close before december of the previous year. And during applications, I would require my undergrad transcripts.

But what if I can graduate undergrad. in the coming may/june, i.e. the one after the application deadlines close in december...

Is there any workaround this? Maybe some kind of conditional admission, till i show my official transcripts?

Or do I have no option but to wait more than half a year after graduating and join in the spring sem?

And I also heard that many schools don't have spring sem? Would that considerably reduce the no. of schools I could apply to ?

You just send them your transcript as of the point when you're applying, and they admit (or reject) you based on that. This is what everyone does everywhere. Don't sweat it.

You can get your transcripts at any time; you don't have to wait until you graduate to ask for them. They will include your grades on all classes taken up to that point, and that's what grad schools will judge you based on. Most applications are due nearly a year before you'd start the program, so fall of your senior year.

Thanks guys...!
