SUMMARY

The discussion centers on an error encountered when attempting to open a GBW file using the ORCA program, specifically the file "h2-rhf-pvdc.gbw". Users identified three potential causes for the error: the file may be missing, corrupted, or the ORCA program itself may be corrupted. A straightforward solution proposed is to uninstall and then reinstall the ORCA software. Additionally, users noted issues accessing the ORCA forum, with varying success across different web browsers.

PREREQUISITES
  • Familiarity with ORCA software for quantum chemistry simulations
  • Understanding of file formats, specifically GBW files
  • Basic troubleshooting skills for software installation and file access
  • Knowledge of web browser compatibility issues
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the latest version of ORCA and its installation process
  • Learn about GBW file structure and common issues related to file corruption
  • Explore troubleshooting techniques for software access and installation errors
  • Investigate browser compatibility with ORCA-related forums and resources
USEFUL FOR

This discussion is beneficial for quantum chemists, researchers using ORCA for simulations, and IT professionals troubleshooting software installation and file access issues.

Hi,i'm having the following error when I try to run an input with ORCA. Does anyone know how to solve?

Chemistry news on Phys.org
The first error message indicates that the file "h2-rhf-pvdc.gbw" has a problem or can not be found.

Three possibilities come to mind:
1) the h2... file is missing
2) the h2... file has been corrupted
3) the main ORCA program has been corrupted

If you don't care to dig into the details, the easiest correction is to un-install ORCA, then re-install it.

There is also an ORCA forum at https://orcaforum.kofo.mpg.de/app.php/portal that I can not access with my old browser.

The ORCA program seems to come from the MAX-PLANCK-INSTITUT at https://www.kofo.mpg.de/en/research/services/orca.

(above sites found with:
https://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=ORCA+program)

Cheers,
Tom

Well-l-l... I tried back to Internet Explorer 6.0 dated 2006 and still No Joy.

Tried a "Ping" to the address and got "Destination Address Unreachable"

Tried a "Ping" without the "orcaforum" that was successful.

Tried connecting without the "orcaforum", got Max-Planck Institut Error 404

Conclusion: Max Planck Institut still exists, but the whale has died.

So it does still exist!
Hmm... Just tried it with FireFox v28.13.0 dated 2020 and got on the website.

At least that much is settled... curiouser & curiouser.

I got to the forum by clicking the link, chrome, Version 125.0.6422.142
also firefox, V 126.0.1
and edge, latest version
and opera, latest version

So no need for old versions. Fault might be at your end. Or did you type the url in?
